"Some of it's pretty, some of it's interesting and some of it's scary” said a little girl at one of my early shows.
In my work there’s often a sense of loneliness, such as an isolated cabin deep in the woods or one lit window in an otherwise dark city. There might be a longing for simpler times, as in a sleepy beach town or a lonely tire-swing in the woods. A mythical city might convey a sense of majesty, while a city in flames evokes despair.
I don't put a lot of conscious thought into any particular piece beforehand but instead go for a vague notion of what I want and then let the piece itself dictate where it wants to go. I try to get across some basic idea of a story but what that story might be is up to the observer’s own imagination.
